Everyone needs a wiki!
Monday, May 8, 2006, 06:05
Today I'm pleased to have no other news for you so I'm going with an announcement for the new wiki for Kororaa!

It is available here:
http://wiki.kororaa.org

It is pretty fresh and we are in the process of porting information across from the forums, so please bear with us while we do that.

You are welcome to contribute to the wiki, so please register if you wish to do so.

It is really designed for Kororaa specific documentation and general Linux tips, so don't forget the great Gentoo wiki (which is full of great information) at http://gentoo-wiki.com

We hope it will be useful!

Quote of the aah.. well.. day? Month?
Saturday, April 22, 2006, 02:50
"Nobody should start to undertake a large project. You start with a small _trivial_ project, and you should never expect it to get large. If you do, you'll just overdesign and generally think it is more important than it likely is at that stage. Or worse, you might be scared away by the sheer size of the work you envision.
So start small, and think about the details. Don't think about some big picture and fancy design. If it doesn't solve some fairly immediate need, it's almost certainly over-designed. And don't expect people to jump in and help you. That's not how these things work. You need to get something half-way _useful_ first, and then others will say "hey, that _almost_ works for me", and they'll get involved in the project. "

Kororaa Xgl Live CD 0.2 Released!
Friday, April 7, 2006, 09:33
Code-name: "Blood, sweat and tears."

Note: For current bugs and issues in this release please see bugs page.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the one you've been waiting so patiently for! After narrowly dodging insanity I am able to release Kororaa Xgl Live CD version 0.2! We have hacked our Kororaa Installer to work with this Xgl Live CD, so easy installation is now possible! This version also sports both Radeon and Intel DRI support, KDE 3.5.2, updated Gnome 2.14, Arch-CK 2.6.16 Kernel, SCSI support and more!

There are many many new features for you, some of which are listed below. Please see the Kororaa installation manual for detailed instructions if you require a guide for the install process. Updated grub installer code now also detects other Linux installs you may have on your hard drive, so you can safely let Kororaa configure your boot-loader (if you want).

I have tested 0.2 as best I could with my limited hardware, so as always, feedback and bug reports are more than welcome!

Download information here.

Some enhancements include:
ArchCK 2.6.16 kernel
ATI Drivers updated (8.23.7)
Gnome 2.14 updated
Higher resolutions now supported
Installation now possible
Intel DRI support
KDE 3.5.2 included
"No X" boot level
Radeon DRI support
SCSI / USB storage support
Swap activation
Switch to vesafb-tng
Video and sound files included
Wireless support (ipw2x, madwifi, ndiswrapper)
*Fixed Automounting
*Fixed Console switching
*Fixed Sound
*Fixed Super key

Plus lots and lots and lots of other tweaks!

Some new apps include:
ekiga
ftp
grub
gxine
pppoe
ppracer
transset-df
vlc
xwinwrap

Known issues:
*Gnome-terminal not working on ATI / DRI systems, please use another terminal (or KDE);
**This means the "Install to Disk" icon on the desktop will not work on affected systems. See bugs page for fix.

*Water plugin freezes the menus under Gnome after stopping the effect.

Thanks
I must thank Coffee-Buzz for his excellent work and help, and also for putting up with all my questions; BuzzMoo for using his media files; the Linux team at ATI who helped me solve a number of issues; all of our mirrors, linuxtracker.org for hosting the bittorrent, and everyone out there working on Gentoo and Xgl :)

Last but not least, thank you everyone for your support. The response to version 0.1 was simply overwhelming! We hope you enjoy version 0.2 just as much as, if not more.

Time for me to take a hard earned break!

Chris

P.S "Previously, practical people of principle have pondered the prospect of presenting this painstakingly prepared project a pretty penny or pound in place of positively pure pleasure. So if perhaps, perchance, you personally perceive this a possibility, a perfectly poised path for processing precious payments is provided by PayPal!
Thank you!"
